Meta, Microsoft and a host of other tech giants have come together to form a Metaverse group - The Metaverse Standards Forum; to spur growth and discussion. Conspicuously missing is the world's most valued tech firm - Apple.
Metaverse Standards Forum is led by the Khronos Group, a nonprofit consortium working on AR/VR, artificial intelligence and already has major players on board, such as Meta, Microsoft, Epic Games, Adobe, NVIDiA, Sony, Unity and others.
The announcement for the Metaverse body comes hours after Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg showcased prototype headsets to support the companies $10 billion bet on the Meta Verse.
Tim Cook led Apple has not yet openly recognized plans for a headset though the buzz in tech corners remains loud. In May Bloomberg reported that Apple demonstrated an AR/VR (augmented and virtual reality) device to its board of directors and has a “consumer release planned for 2023.”
The new group however as stated is 'an open forum' and anyone is free to join. It is not just Apple that is left out but even Roblox and Snapchat, which are building consumer “metaverse” products as well are not yet part of 'clique'.
