ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) has announced the launch of the ROG Ally X, an upgraded model of its popular handheld gaming console. This new version brings significant hardware improvements including enhanced battery life, increased storage, faster RAM, improved display, and a revamped cooling system.
The ROG Ally X builds upon the foundation of the original ROG Ally, addressing user feedback and enhancing key components. The battery capacity has been doubled from 40Wh to 80Wh, offering potentially longer gaming sessions away from power sources. Additionally, the storage has been upgraded to a 1TB M.2 2280 SSD, replacing the previous 512GB option, and providing more room for games and applications. The RAM has also seen an upgrade, now featuring 24GB of LPDDR5X-7500, up from 16GB.
The ROG Ally X retains the same AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor as its predecessor but includes several enhancements.
The display is a 7-inch FHD (1920 x 1080) panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, 500 nits brightness, and AMD FreeSync Premium, ensuring smooth and vibrant visuals.
The ROG Ally X also boasts updated ergonomics with a redesigned chassis that includes deeper hand grips and a more rounded shape for better comfort. The joysticks and buttons have been improved for durability and precision.
The ROG Ally X is equipped with 24GB of LPDDR5X-7500 RAM, allowing for better multitasking and improved performance in the latest AAA games. This increased memory helps allocate more resources to both the system and the GPU, enhancing the overall gaming experience. The 1TB SSD provides ample storage space, making it easier to store and access a large library of games.
The improved cooling system in the ROG Ally X features new fans that are 23% smaller but utilize 50% thinner fan blades, resulting in increased airflow by 24%. The additional exhaust vent helps to keep the device cooler, even during intense gaming sessions. This ensures that the device remains comfortable to hold, with the touchscreen measuring up to 6°C cooler.
With the addition of two USB-C ports, including one that supports Thunderbolt 4, the ROG Ally X offers greater flexibility for connecting to external devices such as docks and external GPUs. This makes it easier for gamers to expand their setup and enjoy a more versatile gaming experience. Despite the enhancements, the device weighs only 70 grams more than the original model, maintaining its portability and ease of use.
Priced at $799 (approximately Rs 66,000), the ROG Ally X is now available for pre-order in a new black colorway. The package includes a 3-month Game Pass subscription, adding value for gamers looking to explore a variety of titles.
