The year 2022 is drawing to a close. While there were no groundbreaking smartphone innovations this year, we got some very capable phones nonetheless.
Here is a recap of the best smartphones launched in 2022.
Best overall: Galaxy S22 Ultra
Samsung’s S22 Ultra is the most balanced high-end smartphone to launch in 2022.
It has a great display, powerful chipset and a capable set of cameras with an industry-leading 100x zoom functionality.
The S22 Ultra also combines Samsung’s Galaxy Note and Galaxy S series, thanks to which it comes with an integrated stylus which can take your productivity game to the next level.
Best cameras: Vivo X80 Pro
Vivo’s collaboration with Zeiss came a long way in 2022 and gave us the X80 Pro. This smartphone has a complete camera system with great output across all scenarios.
Other aspects of this device, such as its display and performance are quite great as well. What’s even better is that at ₹80,000, it is more affordable than its rivals.
Best foldable: Galaxy Z Fold 4
Foldables have been out for 3 years now, but Samsung’s Galaxy Fold still remains the only globally available book-style foldable smartphone. But that hasn't stopped Samsung from improving it.
The new Fold 4 may look similar to Fold 3 but it comes with an improved hinge mechanism and a much better camera system ensuring that your ₹1.55 lakh are rather well spent.
Best user experience: OnePlus 10 Pro
OnePlus has received a lot of criticism recently for the changes it has made to Oxygen OS. But the truth is that its flagship smartphone still provides a terrific user experience.
The OnePlus 10 Pro isn’t just a snappy smartphone, but it also comes with a good set of cameras and a fast 80W charging, all at a comparatively affordable starting price of ₹61,999 which makes it one of the best phones of 2022.
Best iPhone: iPhone 14 Pro
The iPhone 14 Pro brings excitement back to iPhones with its cool new dynamic island.
If that’s not enough, the iPhone 14 Pro also comes equipped with the most powerful mobile chipset as well as a camera setup which is renowned for its consistency.
At ₹1.29 lakh, its starting price in India is definitely inflated, but that has never really bothered iPhone fans anyway…
Honourable mention: Google Pixel 6a
Google’s Pixel series came back with a bang in India this year. However, the real surprise here was the most affordable Pixel, the 6a.
It makes for an incredible photo camera thanks to Google’s image processing algorithms. It was launched at ₹44,000, but you can currently get it for under ₹30,000 online which makes it a no-brainer for mobile photographers on a budget.
