Rockstar Games, creator of the popular Grand Theft Auto game franchise, has confirmed that work on the next GTA game is underway. In a series of tweets, the game developer said that "active development" for the GTAV successor is in progress.
Rockstar Games asked fans to stay tuned to its Newswire, where it's posted an update about the future of GTAV and GTA Online, including a current-gen version of GTAV for newer consoles. These new versions are set to be released in March 2022 for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S devices.

The game developer has not referred to the new game as GTAVI, but has followed this naming scheme since it released GTAIV in 2008. Moreover, Rockstar has currently not revealed any information about the next Grand Theft Auto game, including its storyline and location.
The current Grand Theft Auto game GTAV and its more popular online version GTA Online were launched in 2013. Set in a fictional representation of Los Angeles called Los Santos, the Story Mode on GTAV revolves around three playable characters--Michael, Franklin and Trevor. It's also worth noting that with over 155 million copies sold, GTAV is on the #2 spot of all time best-selling games, behind Minecraft.
