Instagram has provided more clarity on how its algorithm works across the app.
Each part of the app is optimised for users' interests; for example, feeds aim to balance posts from those users follow and content that they're not already engaged with, while the explore section is designed to help users discover new content.
Instagram's ranking systems also take into account factors such as users' viewing and engagement histories and their closeness to the account creator.
It has set guidelines for the types of content moved lower in feeds and stories, and it has also defined recommendations guidelines to avoid showing content that goes against its values.
Furthermore, to help users influence the type of content they see, Instagram has added new controls like the Sensitive Content Control and feature called "Not Interested" to indicate their preferences.
The social media platform has also provided an Account Status feature, so users can understand whether their account and content is eligible to be recommended to others.
