On the heels of introducing the Z7 Pro in India, iQOO, a sub-brand of Vivo, has rolled out its new Z8 series in the Chinese market. This series includes the Z8 and Z8x, succeeding the Z7 and Z7x models released earlier this year. While the Z8 emerges as the more premium offering, both phones share similar aesthetics but diverge significantly in technical specifications.
The Z8 and Z8x boast a sleek, compact design featuring a curved back panel. One of the highlights is a side-mounted fingerprint scanner integrated into the power button. The glossy black rear panel houses a squarish camera module, lending the phones a dual-toned look.
Both devices sport a 6.64-inch display with a center-aligned punch-hole design. The screens offer an FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, elevating the user experience in visuals and smoothness.
The devices are equipped with dual rear cameras. The Z8 features a 64MP OIS-enabled main sensor, complemented by a 2MP depth sensor. In contrast, the Z8x has a 50MP main lens and a secondary 2MP bokeh sensor. The selfie game also differs between the two models; the Z8 offers a 16MP front camera, while the Z8x settles for an 8MP selfie camera.
Underneath the polished exteriors, the Z8 is fueled by a MediaTek Dimensity 8200 processor, while the Z8x is armed with a Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 chipset. Both phones are powerhouses, supporting up to 12GB of RAM and storage capacities of up to 512GB. Additionally, they feature a VC cooling chamber to manage heat levels effectively.
Regarding energy reserves, the Z8 is backed by a 5,000mAh battery with support for 120W fast charging. On the other hand, the Z8x gets a more substantial 6,000mAh battery but with more modest 44W fast charging capabilities.
Both phones run on OriginOS 3, which is based on Android 13. When it comes to connectivity, they offer a variety of options, including 5G, WiFi, Bluetooth, and a USB-C port.
The devices come in Moon Porcelain White, Hoshino Green, and Yaoye Black. The Z8 starts at CNY 1,699 ($233) for the base 8GB+256GB variant, and the higher-end configurations are priced at CNY 1,799 ($246) and CNY 1,999 ($274).
Conversely, the Z8x starts at CNY 1,299 ($178) for the 8GB + 128GB model, with other variants costing CNY 1,399 ($191) and CNY 1,499 ($205). Both phones are now available for pre-orders in China, with sales set to commence on September 7.
