Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked 2024 event introduced the much-awaited S24 series, and I had the chance to get an early hands-on experience in San Jose, California.
Here's the first look at the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, Galaxy S24 Plus, and Galaxy S24.
The star of the show, the Galaxy S24 Ultra, strikes a familiar design chord to its predecessor, the S23 Ultra, but elevates it with a lighter titanium frame.
It's available in new colours like Titanium Black and the eye-catching Titanium Yellow.
The 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED display boasts slimmer bezels and an impressive 2600 nit brightness, all under the protection of Gorilla Glass Armor. And guess what, it’s flat!
Camera-wise, the 50MP telephoto lens with 5X optical zoom is a notable new addition here, and it replaces the 10x unit from the previous smartphone.
Galaxy S24 Ultra also incorporates a top-of-the-line 200MP main sensor from the Galaxy S23 Ultra. Complementing this, there’s a 10MP lens with 3x zoom for detailed close-ups and a versatile 12MP ultrawide with autofocus, enhancing the overall photography experience.
The Galaxy S24 Ultra is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, paired with 12GB RAM and up to 1TB UFS 4.0 storage.
The S24 and S24+ also see upgrades, including larger batteries, and brighter screens.
Depending on the region, the base Samsung Galaxy S24 and Galaxy 24 Plus will be powered by either the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 or Exynos 2400 chipset
The Screen sizes are up by 0.1-inch on both models, so, the base S24 has a 6.2-inch display, while the Plus comes with a 6.7-inch unit. The latter also gets a resolution bump to QHD+.
The S24 Plus steps up to 12GB RAM, while both models retain their previous camera setups.
The S24 gets a 4,000mAh battery, while the Plus has a larger 4,900mAh cell.
A key focus this year is on AI, with all three models boasting impressive capabilities. The 'Live Call Translate' feature stands out, offering real-time audio and text translations during calls.
'Chat Assist' integrates an AI text translator into Samsung’s keyboard, enhancing communication.
The innovative 'Circle to Search' feature, powered by Google AI, allows users to circle anything on their screen to instantly pull up relevant information, significantly upgrading the Google Lens experience.
With the S24 Ultra, this feature is also accessible using the S Pen, a nod to stylus users.
Other AI-driven features include advanced photo editing and an improved night-time zoom, but I'll delve deeper into these in our upcoming Galaxy S24 Ultra review.
The Indian pricing for the Galaxy S24 series is yet to be revealed and will be updated shortly.
The release date for the Samsung Galaxy S24 Series in India is currently shrouded in anticipation. As of now, Samsung has not disclosed the official launch date for this eagerly awaited series in the Indian market.
Stay tuned for more details, and in the meantime, share your thoughts on Samsung's new smartphones and their AI features.
