Samsung launches Galaxy S22 Ultra, Galaxy S22+, Galaxy S22 smartphones: check price, specs

Samsung has launched the Galaxy S22 Ultra, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 smartphones at its Galaxy Unpacked 2022 event. The Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra tablet was also launched. The new range of Galaxy S22 series flagships from Samsung carry the latest camera and processing improvements, while the Galaxy S22 Ultra gets an S-Pen that slots into the body.

Keeping sustainability in mind, Samsung has noted that the Galaxy S22 series will incorporate plastics made from repurposed ocean-bound discarded fishing nets. The aim of using this material is to help minimize the environmental footprint of the Galaxy S22 series. These materials will be used in every Samsung product going forward.

Galaxy S22 series price and availability

In the US, the Galaxy S22 Ultra has been priced starting at $1,199 for the 8GB + 128GB variant. The Galaxy S22+, meanwhile, has been priced at $999 for the 8GB + 128GB variant. The base Galaxy S22's price starts at $799 for the 8GB + 128GB variant.

Official details on the price and availability of the Galaxy S22 series in India are awaited.

Galaxy S22 Ultra specs

The Galaxy S22 Ultra smartphone from Samsung gets a design inspired by the Note series, with a box-like frame with square edges. The device also incorporates an S-Pen inside the body.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra smartphone is powered by Samsung's 4nm Exynos 2200 chipset, or the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, depending on the market region. The phone offers up to 12GB RAM, and up to 1TB of storage.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra sports a 6.8-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, with a variable refresh rate up to 120Hz. The display has a peak brightness of up to 1750 nits, and covers 100% of the DCI-P3 colour gamut.

For optics, the Galaxy S22 Ultra is equipped with a quad rear camera setup, with a 108MP main wide camera, 12MP ultra-wide camera, and two 10MP telephoto cameras with 3x and 10x optical zoom respectively. On the front, it gets a 40MP selfie camera.

Keeping the lights on is a 5,000mAh battery, with 45W wired fast charging support. The phone also gets 15W wireless charging, and Wireless PowerShare which allows it to charge other devices.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra will run OneUI 4.1, based on Android 12, out of the box. It is IP68 rated for dust and water resistance.

Galaxy S22+ specs

The Galaxy S22+, meanwhile, retains much of the design language of the Galaxy S21+. The smartphone is powered by either the Exynos 2200 or Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, depending on market region, along with 8GB RAM and up to 256GB storage.

On the front, the phone sports a 6.6-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOPLED 2X display, with a variable refresh rate up to 120Hz.

For images and videos, the Galaxy S22+ sports a triple rear camera setup, with a 50MP main wide camera, a 12MP ultra-wide camera, and a 10MP telephoto camera. For selfies, it gets a 10MP front-facing camera.

Keeping the lights on is a 4,500mAh battery with 45W fast wired charging, along with 15W wireless charging and Wireless PowerShare support.

The Galaxy S22+ will also come with OneUI 4.1 based on Android 12, and get IP68 certification.

Galaxy S22 specs

The Galaxy S22 smartphone shares much of the same specifications as the Galaxy S22+, with a few key differences. The smartphone offers a 6.1-inch display, which is also an FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X unit with a variable 120Hz refresh rate. While it offers the same camera setup, it sports a 3,700mAh battery with 25W fast charging support.
