Recently, there was a buzz among Samsung Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Note 20 users due to an announcement from Samsung hinting at a major software update.

This was unexpected as these models were not initially listed to receive new OS updates.

However, it turned out to be a misunderstanding from Samsung, and the Samsung Galaxy S20 and Samsung Galaxy Note 20 are not getting any new updates from the company.

Miscommunication Leads to Disappointment

Samsung has officially cleared the confusion surrounding the Android 14 update for the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Note 20 series.

Earlier, a press statement mistakenly suggested that these models would receive the Android 14 update. This error created quite a stir among the users.

The Source of the Mix-up

The confusion started with a blog post from Samsung about the new One UI 6.0 camera features for supported models.

The post wrongly included Galaxy S20, Galaxy Note 20, and some other older models in the list of devices set to receive the update. Samsung has now corrected this error and updated the post to list only the eligible models.

A Recap of Samsung's Update Journey

The Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Note 20 series, launched in 2020, initially came with Android 10. Samsung promised three major OS updates for these models and kept this promise by rolling out Android 11, Android 12, and Android 13 updates.

While the OS updates have now stopped, these models continue to receive security patch updates to keep the devices secure.

New Beginnings with One UI 6.0

On a related note, Samsung recently launched its latest major OS update, One UI 6.0, based on Android 14.

The One UI 6.0 rollout begins for Galaxy S23 series in various parts of the world including India. This update, sizing around 3GB for regular users and about 350MB for beta testers, brings several improvements.

Users will experience revamped Quick Panel, home screen and lockscreen customizations, a new default font, and a better multitasking experience. This over-the-air (OTA) update is gradually reaching supported models, and users can also check for it manually in the system settings.

Wrap Up

While the Samsung Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Note 20 are not receiving the Android 14 update, the fresh One UI 6.0 rollout for the Galaxy S23 series indicates Samsung's ongoing commitment to enhancing the user experience on its newer models.
