On its exciting lunar expedition, the Chandrayaan-3 mission, after spending nearly 15 days voyaging in the vacuum of space, is gearing up for its pivotal phase to approach the Moon.

Tonight, the spacecraft will undergo the significant Trans Lunar Injection (TLI) phase, which is a key moment in the mission's journey towards its lunar objective.

Chandrayaan 3 Update: The Trans Lunar Injection Phase

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has earmarked the early hours of August 1, between midnight and 1 AM, for this crucial event. The operation is slated to last for approximately 28 to 31 minutes.

During this timeframe, the spacecraft's Propulsion Module engines will ignite, thus increasing the velocity. The TLI is a propellant procedure employed to align a spacecraft on a path that will direct it to intercept the Moon.

A substantial burn, typically executed by a chemical rocket engine, is needed to augment the spacecraft's velocity. This heightened speed alters its trajectory from a circular low Earth orbit to a highly eccentric one.

The TLI burn is carefully measured and timed to accurately target the Moon as it orbits the Earth. As the Moon approaches, the burn is scheduled such that the spacecraft nears apogee (closest point).

Eventually, the spacecraft enters the Moon's sphere of influence, performing a hyperbolic lunar swingby.

The Chandrayaan 3 Landing Date and Other Mission Details

Launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota on July 14, 2023, Chandrayaan-3 has successfully performed five orbit-raising maneuvers, drawing it nearer to its ultimate destination: the Moon. The impending TLI is a critical milestone in this journey.

Post the successful execution of the TLI, Chandrayaan-3 will commence its lunar transfer arc, resembling an elliptical orbit around the Earth, with an apogee near the radius of the moon orbit. The spacecraft is predicted to reach the moon orbit after a series of intricate maneuvers.

Once situated in lunar orbit, the mission will progress into its moon-centric phase, with numerous crucial events scheduled such as the lander's separation, a sequence of deboost maneuvers, and finally, the descent phase for a soft landing on the lunar surface.

Chandrayaan 3 Position and its Scientific Objectives

Chandrayaan-3 boasts a range of scientific tools devised to examine various elements of the lunar surface, including the thermophysical properties of lunar regolith, lunar seismicity, lunar surface plasma environment, and the elemental composition around the moon landing site.

The Chandrayaan 3 Live Location and Budget OverviewThe overall cost of the Chandrayaan-3 mission stands at ₹615 crores, a substantial reduction in comparison to its predecessor, Chandrayaan-2.

Chandrayaan 3 Live Status and the Mission's Longevity

Upon landing, the mission will operate for one lunar day, roughly equivalent to 14 Earth days.

This mission represents a notable landmark in India's space exploration journey, enhancing our comprehension of the Moon, and laying the groundwork for future lunar missions.

Chandrayaan 3, on its amazing voyage, promises to add new chapters to India's space exploration endeavors and deepen our understanding of our celestial neighbor, the Moon.
