On Wednesday, Spotify sent a joint letter along with other media firms like Deezer to the European Commission urging them to take action against Apple for anti-competitive and unfair practices.
The letter addressed to the EU antitrust regulator's Executive Vice-President Margrethe Vestager, urged the Commission to act in the interest of European consumers.Spotify has long accused Apple of using the App Store's rules to suppress competition and has filed antitrust complaints against Apple in various countries. Spotify claims that the 30% charge imposed on developers using the App Store has forced Spotify to raise its own prices artificially.
The letter was also signed by the CEOs of Schibsted, Proton, and Basecamp and called for swift action against these practices by digital gatekeepers, specifically mentioning Apple. Spotify's CEO previously stated that Apple's actions give them an advantage while also stifling innovation and harming consumers. Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Reuters.
