WhatsApp has unveiled new security features for both Android and iOS users in a recent blog post. One of these additions is called 'Account Protect', which alerts users on their previous device to confirm if they are transitioning to a new one, in order to prevent unauthorised access to their account. Another feature, 'Device Verification', runs in the background to block malware from accessing users' messages. The third feature, 'automatic security codes', allows users to confirm that they communicate with the intended recipient. WhatsApp is particularly focused on thwarting unauthorised WhatsApp applications that may contain spyware, and as such, has implemented additional checks to authenticate user accounts. While Android users already have access to these features, iOS users can expect to receive the upgrade in the near future. Users are encouraged to update to the latest version for maximum security.
