A report suggests that WhatsApp's latest beta release for Android (2.23.2.8) includes the ability to post audio status updates.
Users may send audio messages from the same section as they can submit written status updates. For the time being, recordings cannot exceed the 30-second duration restriction.
They are end-to-end encrypted and will remain live for 24 hours until manually erased before then.
WhatsApp also gives users more control over their voice recordings by allowing them to delete recordings before sharing them.
As previously stated, the maximum recording duration for a voice note is 30 seconds, and users must upgrade their WhatsApp version in order to hear voice notes transmitted via status.
