WhatsApp has begun testing emoji reactions for messages, according to a report by Android Central. The feature, which would let users react to a message with an emoji, would emulate similar functionality already seen on Instagram and Facebook Messenger.
The feature was first spotted by WABetaInfo in August 2021, when it was still under testing. WhatsApp beta version 2.22.8.3 on some Android phones is now giving users the ability to long-press a message, and react using one of six pre-set emojis.
WhatsApp has also recently introduced a setting for the iOS app and desktop app to manage reactions, letting users turn off notifications for getting a message reaction.

Users have long been asking for the emoji reactions feature, which is also available on services like Google Messages and iMessage, along with Facebook and Instagram, which are owned by Meta. With the feature now in beta testing, it should soon start rolling out for all users.
