WhatsApp is constantly evolving, and the latest beta update hints at a revamped status update experience.

According to WaBetaInfo, a new ranking system is being tested that prioritizes updates from certain contacts and allows for easier previewing.

Prioritising important contacts

The core feature revolves around prioritizing status updates based on your interactions with contacts.

This means frequent contacts, pinned chats, recently messaged individuals, and those with expiring updates will all appear at the top of your status list.

This ensures you don't miss important information from close connections or updates that are about to disappear.

Large thumbnails for easier previewing

The update may also introduce larger thumbnails for status previews.

This will provide a clearer glimpse into the content of the status update, allowing you to decide whether you want to view it in full.

Privacy focused ranking

The ranking system is designed with user privacy in mind. Data used for prioritization is stored locally on your device and not shared with WhatsApp servers. This means reinstalling the app will reset the ranking data.

Current availability and future rollout

This feature is currently limited to beta testers but is expected to be rolled out to the public in a future update within the coming weeks.

With the focus on prioritising important contacts and offering easier previews, this update has the potential to significantly enhance the WhatsApp status update experience.
