Instagram has rolled out a new feature that allows users to download publicly shared Reels natively within the app.
This move comes in response to the growing demand from users to save and share Reels content.
The new download feature is expected to enhance user experience and facilitate the sharing of engaging and entertaining short videos.
Instagram users can now easily download public Reels by simply tapping the Share icon and selecting the Download option from the share sheet.
The downloaded Reels will include an Instagram watermark, the account username, and audio attribution.
This mirrors the popular functionality seen in the TikTok platform, where users can effortlessly download and share TikToks with others.
For users who prefer not to have their Reels downloaded by others, several privacy control options have been introduced. One such option is to make the account private, limiting access to approved followers only.
Additionally, users can disable the download feature for individual Reels during the posting process. This can be done by visiting Advanced Settings while posting a new Reel and turning off the toggle to allow downloads.
For those seeking a more comprehensive solution, the option to disable Reels download for the entire account is available in the account settings.
By navigating to Settings and Privacy > Privacy > Reels and Remix and disabling the download toggle, users can ensure that their Reels remain non-downloadable.
In a related move, Instagram has also introduced an Audience feature for Reels and posts.
This feature enables users to choose whether their content is shared with all followers or only with selected Close Friends, offering greater control over content visibility.
