A weakened Congress has decided to offer 'issue-based support' to the BJP-Conrad Sangma ruling alliance in Meghalaya

India's grand old party is left with only 5 members in the Assembly after 17 of its MLAs led by ex-CM Mukul Sangma quit and joined the Trinamool Congress

Congress' Meghalaya in-charge Manish Tewari has said that the party will remain and play the role of the opposition. The offer of support is on issues of development for the state.

Congress-turned-TMC leader Mukul Sangma called the party's decision to support an alliance which has BJP as a partner a great betrayal to the opposition.
