With its creamy texture and delectable taste, paneer has been a staple in our kitchens for many years. But you may have noticed that people who are on a diet often prefer to switch to tofu as it tends to be lower in fat. So should you, too, make the switch from paneer to tofu?

Well, the answer depends on who's asking the question. While paneer is made from milk protein, tofu is created by coagulating and curdling soybean milk.

Tofu, which is also known as soy paneer is the ideal alternative for people who are lactose intolerant or vegan as it contains no animal products.

Tofu is also great for people who are trying to lose weight as it has fewer calories, while still being rich in protein and offers more iron than paneer. Tofu also has no cholesterol but is higher in carbohydrate content compared to paneer.

While tofu is big on iron, paneer is a great source of calcium and actually has more protein than the same amount of tofu. This means that paneer may be great for people who do heavy exercise as it can help build muscle and prevent wear and tear.

By now, you must have realised that both tofu and paneer are extremely healthy. Making the switch from one to the other really depends on your dietary restrictions and in case you have no restrictions, it will be best to add a little bit of both to your diet.

Paneer works great in desi and mughlai cuisine, you can use tofu in Chinese stir-fried dishes or have it grilled with your salad!
