It may be 2021, but some people in India are holding on to their casteist mindset.

Soon after the Indian Women's Hockey Team lost their semi-final to Argentina, ace hockey player Vandana Katariya's family was assailed by upper caste men in Haridwar. The men gathered near her home and started hurling casteist remarks against her family.

The family complained that the men mocked them by bursting crackers and danced outside their home, shouting that the team lost as it had “too many Dalit players.”

Katariya's family has since filed a complaint with the police and one man has been detained in the case.

Vandana made her mark on the Tokyo games by becoming the first Indian woman to score a hat-trick in the Olympics.
