India's PV Sindhu put up her A-game on display against a spirited and local favourite Akane Yamaguchi as the Rio 2016 Silver medalist entered the semifinals in Tokyo Olympics. The reigning World Champion kept India's hopes of winning a first-ever Olympic gold in badminton alive as she overcame World no 5 Akane Yamaguchi.
Sindhu battled hard in the 56-min long quarterfinal in Tokyo and finally won 21-13, 22-20 against the local hope and 4th seed.

Sindhu who is seeded sixth improved her head-to-head record against Yamaguchi to 12 wins in 19 outings.
