The Karnataka High Court on Thursday granted interim relief to Twitter MD Manish Maheshwari and directed Ghaziabad Police not to take any coercive steps against him.

Maheshwari will not have to travel to Ghaziabad's Loni Border police station for questioning in connection with a case about tweets about the alleged assault of a Muslim man.

Twitter India’s Managing Director Manish Maheshwari had moved the Karnataka High Court seeking transit anticipatory bail, days after a legal notice was sent to him for not removing posts linked to the alleged assault of a Muslim man in Ghaziabad.

The court said the 'matter needs further consideration' and reserved orders till June 29. However, the court said it was not stopping the probe, adding that police can continue probe through virtual means.

Meanwhile, at least 50 tweets in connection with the case were restricted on Monday as Twitter India withheld access to posts pertaining to the video of the alleged assault.
