A diet rich in ultra-processed food is linked to a change in chromosomes related to ageing, a new research published at the European and International Conference on Obesity said.

Three or more servings of ultra-processed foods a day increases the risk of shortening of telomeres which protect the chromosomes from deterioration.

Short telomeres indicate cellular ageing and diets like these may be responsible for cells to age faster.

Ultra processed foods have poor nutritional value and may lead to issues like hypertension, depression, diabetes and cancer.
