In a bid to improve agriculture infrastructure, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the Budget 2021 proposed an Agriculture Infrastructure and Development Cess. This will ensure enhanced remuneration for our farmers, she added.

An agriculture cess of ₹2.5 per litre has been imposed on petrol and ₹4 per litre on diesel. Other items include precious metals like gold and silver, alcoholic beverages, crude palm oil, apples. coal, peas, etc.

However, the finance minister ensured there will be no additional burden on consumers on most items as the basic custom duty rates have been reduced on some of these items. These items include apple, alcoholic beverages, crude edible oil, coal, etc.
