India’s largest home services marketplace Urban Company is facing serious charges of exploitation as over 100 women employees protested outside the office of the unicorn start-up in Gurugram demanding better wages.
The allegations against Urban Company
The complaints came to light as social media got flooded with videos with beauticians alleging that Urban Company has hiked thecommissions it charges from them to over 30%, reducing their salaries significantly.

Women workers employed with Urban Company also alleged that they are not offered any kind of insurance from the company and also charged Rs 2,000 if they do less than 30 jobs in a month.
Urban Company responds to accusations
Home service marketplace Urban Company on Sunday denied allegations levelled by its women beautician partners of providing very low commission to them and claimed that the earnings are far more than the amount claimed by them.
But the company a blogpost on Sunday acknowledged that it is “not perfect” and might have made mistakes in its journey. The company said that it will be announcing important programmes to enhance earnings of partners in the coming weeks
