Law enforcement officials say terrorism is not suspected in a deadly confrontation outside the US Capitol on Friday.

A man rammed his car into two officers outside the Capitol and then emerged wielding a knife. The incident left one police officer and the suspect dead.

Officials declined to offer a motive, but said there was no ongoing threat to the area and that the incident did not appear to be linked to terrorism.

The police officer who died in the attack was identified as an 18-year veteran of the force. The suspect, a 25-year-old black man, died at a hospital.
