The sanctions imposed by United States on Iran will not impact India's development of Chabahar Port in the country, Washington has reportedly informed New Delhi through diplomatic channels on October 12. The Trump administration's assurance comes ahead of the India-US 2+2 ministerial meeting that begins on Monday, October 26.
US Secretary of State Michael R Pompeo and Secretary of Defence Mark T Esper are slated to visit New Delhi to meet External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on October 26-27.
Earlier in October, the Trump administration imposed sanctions on 18 major Iranian banks, that led to India reaching out to the US on concerns regarding the Chabahar port.
