The Trump administration will ban some transactions over the Chinese-owned WeChat app while preventing new downloads and updates of the app, as well as TikTok starting Sunday.
US will also prohibit cash transfers within the US related to WeChat and its parent company Tencent Holdings Ltd. The order doesn’t apply to operations or cash transfers outside the US.
The basic TikTok app will stay intact until November 12, although users in the US won’t be able access upgrades from Sunday night. Meanwhile, TikTok slammed the decision saying that it was disappointed with the ban on new downloads which comes even after it committed to "unprecedented additional levels of additional transparency" following Trump’s executive order.
