More than 300,000 acres are burning across six states in the western United States, as the region battles yet another brutal heat wave that has shattered records and strained power grids. The largest wildfire, the so-called Bootleg Fire, burned across 143,607 acres in Oregon and was 0% contained, according to reports.
Officials in California have asked all residents to reduce power consumption after the fire knocked out interstate power lines. Wildfires have destroyed several homes and forced many to evacuate in Northern California, where hundreds of firefighters are battling the blaze for days.
California recorded its worst fire season in 2020, with around 4.1 million estimated acres burned last year.
