As speculation over a change in leadership were swirling in Uttarakhand, Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat resigned on Tuesday.
On Monday, Rawat had several meetings in Delhi with the BJP leadership, who reportedly received feedback from party MLAs in Uttarakhand that the Chief Minister's below par performance would cost the party in polls due by February next year.
Rawat’s resignation comes with just 10 days to go for his government to complete four years, and two days after BJP national vice-president Raman Singh held a meeting of the party’s state core committee in Dehradun as an “observer” and spoke to members separately.
