Asha Bhosle is the sister of playback singer Lata Mangeshkar
Asha Bhosle was just 10 when she sang her first song 'Chala Chala Nav Bala' in 1943. Both sisters began singing to support their family.
She got a chance to sing her first solo song in 1949 for the movie ‘Raat Ki Raani’. She was 16 at that time.
At 16, she married Ganpatrao Bhosle. After a few years, she returned home with two children and pregnant with a third child.
Asha Bhonsle gained popularity after singing 'Nanhe Munhe Bachche' with Mohammed Rafi.
Asha Bhosle married R.D. Burman in 1980. They were married for 14 years till Burman died in 1994.
At the age of 79, Asha played the role of a mother in a Marathi film called 'Mai'.
In 2011, she was acknowledged as the most-recorded artist by the Guinness Book of World Records.
The Government of India honoured Asha with Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2000 and 8 years later, she was awarded Padma Vibhushan.
In 1997, she became the very first Indian artist to be nominated by Grammy Awards for ‘Legacy’.
