8 actors who created their own political parties

Thalapathy' Vijay (TVK)

Vijay announced his decision to join politics on February 2, 2024. His party is called Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK).

MGR (AIADMK)

A towering figure in Tamil Nadu, MG Ramachandran launched AIADMK in 1972. He served as the third Chief Minister of the state.

NTR (TDP)

NT Rama Rao, a stalwart of Telegu cinema, went on to become Andhra CM. He started his own political party named Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in 1982.

Pawan Kalyan (Jana Sena Party)

Pawan Kalyan enjoys a massive fan following and launched the Jana Sena Party in 2014. In 2019, his party contested 140 seats in Andhra state polls.

Upendra (UPP)

Actor Upendra, who works primarily in Kannada films created his own political party named Uttama Prajaakeeya Party (UPP) in 2018.

Vijayakanth (DMDK)

Vijayakanth was a popular lead actor in Tamil cinema. Later, he created his own political party named Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK).

Kamal Hassan (MNM)

Kamal Hassan entered politics in 2018. He created his own political party and named it Makkal Needhi Maiam.

Sivaji Ganesan (Dravidar Kazhagam)

He was the first Indian actor to win 'Best Actor' award in an international film festival. In 1944, he founded political party named Dravidar Kazhagam
