ISRO made an announcement about Mission Gaganyaan and said that the first test flight of an unmanned crew will take place on October 21.
Gaganyaan is a project to show ISRO's human spaceflight capability by launching 3 astronauts to outer space on a 3-day mission by end of 2024.
According to ISRO, the total cost of the Gaganyaan programme is ₹9,023 crores.
The unmanned mission is taking place for technology demonstration, safety and reliability verification before undertaking a manned mission.
The objective of this programme is to check the indigenous capability to undertake human space flight missions to Low Earth Orbit (LEO).
After October 21's D1 test mission, there will be three additional test missions, namely D2, D3, and D4.
