As the name suggests, the anti-NEET bill aims to give students an exemption from the infamous medical entrance exam.
The bill was created after 17-year-old Anitha killed herself after she could not join a medical college due to her NEET score in 2017.
While Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin’s government pushed the bill, it has been sent back by Governor RN Ravi.
Tamil Nadu’s government believes that NEET fails to accurately asses an aspirant. It also says wealthy students with extra tuition have an advantage.
Stalin’s government suggested that students should also be eligible to apply to a medical college using their class 12 board exam scores.
Reports say the Centre is trying to make NEET a ‘low-stake exam’ after several suicide cases were reported from Tamil Nadu.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Friday urged President Droupadi Murmu to give assent to the state's anti-NEET bill.
