For parliamentary elections in Punjab, Sarabjit Singh Khalsa is running as an independent candidate from Faridkot (reserved) constituency.
Khalsa, 45, is a Class XII dropout and the son of Beant Singh, one of the assassins of late prime minister Indira Gandhi.
Khalsa has previously contested unsuccessfully in Lok Sabha elections in 2009 and in 2014.
In the 2019 election, he represented the Bahujan Samaj Party.
Khalsa’s mother, Bimal Kaur, and his grandfather, Sucha Singh, both served as Members of Parliament in 1989.
Indira Gandhi was assassinated on October 31, 1984, by her Sikh bodyguards, Satwant Singh and Beant Singh, after Operation Blue.
