Israel and Hamas have announced a temporary truce, which will include a four-day ceasefire. This comes after a seven-week-long full-blown war.
Israeli cabinet said the decision was difficult but right. Hamas released a statement hailing the decision as a ‘humanitarian truce.’
50 Israeli and foreign hostages would be released by Hamas in the truce period, which would be extended by a day for every 10 additional hostages.
Hamas’ statement said Israel would also release 150 Palestinians who are currently in Israeli prisons.
Palestinian militant group Islamic Jihad Israel would pause air and ground operations in southern Gaza.
The crucial negotiations were brokered by Qatari emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and US President Joe Biden.
