After testing the feature internally, WhatsApp has now begun rolling out end-to-end encrypted backups for all users on Android and iOS.
The encrypted backups can be stored on Google Drive or iCloud, but have to be manually enabled by going to Settings, Chats, Chat Backups, and then selecting End-to-End Encrypted Backups.
Users will have to create a password to protect their encrypted backups. If the password is forgotten, the backups cannot be restored.
