WHO launches plan to eliminate cervical cancer across the world

The World Health Organisation has committed to eliminate cervical cancer across the world with a new global strategy.

As a part of the strategy outlined by the health body, they aim to vaccinate nine in ten girls by the age of 15 and screen seven in 10 women by the age of 35 and again at 45 in addition to treating 90% women with cervical disease.

Cervical cancer kills a woman every two minutes, around the world. According to statistics from 2018, 570,000 women were diagnosed with cervical cancer and 311,000 died of it. Almost 90% of all deaths induced by cervical cancer occur in low and middle income countries. This new plan aims to eradicate millions of deaths by 2050 with enhanced screening and vaccines.
