Former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting has come down heavily on Joe Root and slammed him for criticising English bowlers for the Adelaide Test defeat.

In an interview with Cricket.com.au, Ponting said that he nearly fell off his seat when he heard that. 'Whose job is it then to make them change? Why are you captain then?' asked Ponting.

After a crushing defeat in the 2nd Ashes Test, Root had said that his bowlers should have been "braver" and bowled fuller. Responding to that, Ponting added that Root can come back and say whatever he likes but if you're captain, you've got to be able to sense when your bowlers aren't bowling where you want them to.
