Using the hashtag #BJPKilledDemocracy, West Bengal CM Mamata NBanerjee took to twitter to slam the government for suspending 8 legislators who fought to protect farmers’ interests. She called the suspensions unfortunate and wrote that it reflects the autocratic government’s mindset that doesn’t respect democratic norms and principles. In her tweet she also vowed to fight ‘fascist’ government in the Parliament as well as on the streets. Meanwhile, TMC MP Sukhendu Sekhar Ray said pleas of several members for referring the matter to Select Committee were not taken up for disposal before passing of the farm Bill by so-called ‘voice vote.’ He also noted that the role of Chair in this context was ex facie ‘partisan’, unprecedented & unlawful.
