Nine months after former Japan PM Shinzo Abe was shot dead while giving an election speech, incumbent Prime Minister Fumio Kishida suffered a scare after a loud explosion occurred during an event on 15 April 2023.

Kishida was at the Saikazaki port in Wakayama to campaign for his party's candidate in a local election. The blast occurred as he was about to start his speech.

The Prime Minister was safely evacuated, and a person was apprehended at the scene, reports said.
