Chinese President Xi Jinping put coup rumours to rest by visiting an exhibition in Beijing on Tuesday, reported state media. This is his first public appearance since the Shanghai Co-operation Organisation summit in Uzbekistan.
Speculations of a military coup were doing the rounds following the Chinese premier's prolonged absence from the public eye. Assertions viral on social media included claims that Xi had been removed as the head of China's military, the People's Liberation Army (PLA).
However, some commentators said that the President must have been in a quarantine after returning from the trip in mid-September with experts dismissing the coup rumours.
