Here's why Greta Thunberg won't attend upcoming COP27 climate summit

Climate activist Greta Thunberg on Monday said she will not attend next month's Cop27 talks in Egypt, adding that the global climate summit was mere 'greenwashing,'

Saying that she had 'many reasons' to not attend the climate event,  Thunberg added that space for civil society this year is extremely limited.

The 19-year-old activist said that such forums are mainly used by powerful to get attention where they engage in 'different kinds of greenwashing.'

She reiterated her criticim of global talks stating that "they are not really meant to change the whole systemn, but instead encourage gradual progress."

The activist further added that  Cops are not really working, unless they are used as an opportunity, platform to mobilise.

Thunberg was speaking at the launch of her latest book at London's Southbank Centre, reported The Guardian.

The 27th UN Conference on Climate Change will be held from November 6-18, 2022.
