At least 41 women prisoners have been killed in violence between gangs at a jail in Honduras.
The police said prison authorities in Tamara found dozens of bodies after the violence at the prison on June 20.
Some of the victims had been shot to death, while the bodies of some women were found charred. At least seven female inmates were being treated at a hospital for gunshot and knife wounds.
Reports said that a brawl had broken out at the prison between members of rival gangs Barrio 18 and the Mara Salvatrucha.
Government authorities suggested that the riot started because of recent attempts by authorities to crack down on illicit activity inside prisons.
