A restaurant chain in Japan is reportedly suing a teenager who allegedly licked a soy sauce bottle, a video of which went viral on social media.

The sushi restaurant chain is seeking $480,000, or nearly ₹4 crore in damages from the teenager, who later apologised.

The incident occurred in January 2023 at an Akindo Sushiro eatery, which is owned by Food and Life Companies. The teenager also allegedly touched sushi passing on a conveyor belt with a saliva-covered finger.

The restaurant has claimed that its sales declined after the video went viral. It has also led to other incidents of so-called "sushi terrorism".
