Lt. Col. Roman Malyk, Military commissar, also the head of Vladimir Putin's military mobilisation campaign for Ukraine was found dead under "suspicious" circumstances, several news reports claimed.

Quoting The Mirror, a Hindustan Times report said that the 49-year-old was found dead in a possible suicide at his residence in a village in the Primorsky region of Russia.

Following the shocking demise of a key military official, a probe has been launched into Malyk’s death, HT reported.

The reports also suggest that suicide has not been ruled out as a cause by Russian police.

Malyk's death comes amid many reports of assaults on mobilisation officers across the country as resentment over enlistment increased following Putin's military call-up last month.
