A 33-year-old US man has been arrested for allegedly unlocking the emergency door of a mid-air flight and stabbing a crew member.

The March 5 incident was reported on a Boston-bound United Airlines flight, as per an India Today report

45 minutes prior to landing the cabin crew received an alarm in the cockpit over the opening of an emergency door and on checking found that the door's handle had been moved out of the fully locked position, the report added.

After locking the emergency slide, the crew confronted the man for tampering with the door charges he outrightly denied.

The onboard crew decided to land the aircraft as soon as possible saying that Torres posed a threat. The accused in response allegedly stabbed a flight attendant with a broken metal spoon and was restrained with the help of passengers and other crew members. He was taken into custody soon after the flight landed in Boston.

Torres has been booked for interference and attempted interference with the flight crew members which may land him in jail for up to 5 years' sentence and a fine of up to $250,000.
