Matching sets of dinosaur footprints have been discovered in South America and Africa, unearthing trans-Atlantic mysteries from 120 million years ago. The discovery confirmed that the continents were once connected by a strip of land. Preserved in mud and stone along ancient rivers, over 260 fossils were found by scientists. Most were created by three-toed theropod dinosaurs. Africa and South America began to pull apart from each other about 140 million years ago, gradually reaching their current positions.
