Over 5 decades old power plant in Mexico was razed in a controlled demolition after being shuttered in 2022.
The controlled demolition ends years of generating electricity from coal at the San Juan Generating Station that opened in 1973.
Footage of the demolition shows the 400-foot cooling towers crashing to the ground in a cloud of dust.
The plant, operated by Public Service Company of New Mexico, was shuttered in a move that sent financial ripples through the surrounding communities.
The plant is part of a wave of coal-burning units to be retired as New Mexico and other states try to fight climate change by requiring more carbon-free sources of electricity.
