New York City plans to solve its infamous rat problem with birth control pills in traps that will reduce the rodents' fertility. Under a plan approved by the city's council, contraceptive pellets will be placed in special rat-accessible traps in a small section of New York from next year and the creatures will eat their way to a lower birth rate. A plan-based drug called Contrapest prevents rats from breeding for 45 days. The manufacturer, Senestech, claims it's a more humane and long-term solution than poisons.
