Tension between North Korea, and South Korea and its allies, continued to rise on 20 February 2023.

North Korea fired a ballistic missile towards the sea on 20 February, according to South Korea's military. On 17 February, Pyongyang had conducted a test launch of its Hwasong-15 intercontinental ballistic missile.

This was the country's first missile test since 1 January 2023.

Tension is rising on the Korean peninsula since the United States of America and South Korea announced a fresh set of military drills. While the allies claimed that the exercise is aimed at preparing for a possible nuclear attack by Kim Jong Un, the North has said that is an invasion rehearsal.
